Menlyn Park takes home the Gold

Menlyn Park takes home the Gold                                                  10 November 2007

The inaugural Spectrum Awards, a South African Council of Shopping Centres (SACSC) initiative, celebrate retail excellence – excellence across all disciplines and across all sectors.

It is a platform for recognizing innovation, outstanding economic and creative achievements:  a highly prized accolade in an increasingly competitive industry.

Part of the Spectrum Awards is the presentation of the Footprints Marketing Awards.  It is the annual showcase of outstanding, highly effective initiatives in retail marketing.  Menlyn Park Shopping Centre won a Gold Award at the gala event which took place on 8 November at VodaWorld in Midrand.

The award was allocated to the centre for its outstanding Bluetooth communications initiative.

It has become the first mall in Africa to use mobile technology to communicate with shoppers in a personalized manner.

One of the first malls in Pretoria to implement a Bluetooth system, Menlyn Park has used upgraded systems to allow shoppers to register their Bluetooth phones in fewer than 30 seconds and choose information from a list of interests.

The Bluetooth system processes the information in such a way that on their next visit the customer is recognised, greeted and welcomed personally to the mall.  Then information related to categories which the customer has pre-selected is offered for acceptance by the customer.

This is not the only recognition the centre has received this year.  In a  survey of the Tshwane Municipal District conducted during May / June 2007, Menlyn Park was voted BEST SHOPPING CENTRE in the District.
